The Rest of God

The rest of God means to walk in His completed work. Hebrews 4:3 states “…His works were finished from the foundation of the world”. So if His works are finished we must walk in them. If we labor in our own flesh, we will fail in due time. God’s Holy Spirit spoke to me on this issue when I began to take hold of the call to minister in the prisons. He led me to Psalm 127:1 “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it…” We can do nothing for the kingdom unless we build it on the completed work of Christ, otherwise; we will labor in vain. If we are seated in the heavenly places with Christ then we will rest in His work. A man who sits does not labor in his on work but rest in the completed work of Christ. My belief is that if we are not in God’s rest we are walking and working in the flesh and depending on our own strength and not His. This will set us up for a great fall spiritually, physically, and mentally. Jesus told us to take His yoke upon us and to learn from Him and our souls would find rest (Matthew 11:29). If the soul is the mind and the mind is loaded down with the demands of the world it will have no rest. However, when it has faith in God’s completed work and His Word, it will find rest because we know He who has began a good work in us will perfect it until the day of Christ (Philippians 1:6). We must walk according to the Spirit and not the flesh. If we walk in the Spirit we will find God’s rest.
